Our wide range of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) includes an excellent selection of Masks and Respirators to protect your respiratory system at work.

Damage to the respiratory system can significantly affect the victims in later life and it may even be difficult to diagnose.

Thus, it is essential for workers to have access to respiratory protective equipment (RPE), which conforms to European standards and fits the wearer adequately. It is recommended that all RPE is face fit tested, but it is compulsory for those working with lead or asbestos.

Wearing a mask with the correct type of protection is important to your worker's health and safety. Equipping the wrong mask for the job can start off as small irritation, but further exposure can lead to soft tissue damage and can go as far as lung failure and cancers.

Inhalation disorders cause around 12,000 deaths each year due to occupational respiratory disease which can be reduced if workers are equipped with the correct type of mask.

European Standards

Our mask and respirators comply with the following international standards

BS: EN Reference Meaning
EN 136 The European Standard for full face masks.
EN 140 The European Standard for half or quarter masks.
EN 143 The European Standard for particulate filters.
EN 14387 The European Standard for gas/gas and combination filters.
EN 12941 The European Standard for a powered filtering device with a helmet/hood.
EN 12942 The European Standard for a powered filtering device with full, half or quarter masks.
EN 1827 The European Standard for filtering half masks without inhalation valves.
EN 149 The European Standard for filtering facepieces against particles.
EN 405 The European Standard for valved half masks

According to the EN149:2001, respiratory masks and filters are designed to protect against solids, water-based aerosols, and oil-based aerosols.

Classes of protection

There are three classes of protection detailed in EN149:2001 – FFP1, FFP2 & FFP3. FFP1 face masks are the ‘least’ protective and FFP3 masks are the ‘most’ protective.

FFP1 Protection

  • FFP1 face masks offer the minimum level of respiratory protection against non-toxic particulates.
  • FFP1 respirator masks are not suitable for working environments in which poisonous, fibrogenic kinds of dust and aerosols are around.
  • Best suited for the building or food industry
  • APF rating of 4x. OEL rating of 4x

FFP2 Protection

  • FFP2 face masks offer a moderate level of protection against hazardous mists, particulates and fumes.
  • Protection class FFP2 respirator masks are made for working environments in which deleterious and mutagenic particles can be found in breathing air.
  • Protection class FFP2 respirator masks are often worn in the metal and mining industry.
  • APF rating of 10x. OEL rating of 12x

FFP3 Protection

  • Protection class FFP3 respirator masks offer maximum protection from breathing air pollution
  • This kind of mask also filters poisonous, oncogenic and radioactive particles.
  • When working in an environment with silicates, respirable dust, mists and fumes (including from welding), FFP3 must be used.
  • APF rating of 20x. OEL rating of 50x
