The human hand is complex, important and delicate. From lacerations to burns to infections, the range of injuries to the hand is immense. Thus, Hand Protection is of the utmost importance. Protective gloves are the first and foremost line of defence when working with anything that could result in a hand injury.

International Standards

EN 388: 2016 Standard for Gloves Protecting Against Mechanical Risks

Cuts and lacerations are the most common type of hand injury, meaning it is critical to wear the correct safety glove for the task at hand. EN 388 is a widely-recognised standard that determines the requirements for safety gloves.

Safety Gloves are commonly tested across a huge range of industries to meet this standard:

  • Abrasion Test (Rated 1-4)
  • Cut Test (Rated 1-5)
  • Tear Test (Rated 1-4)
  • Puncture Test (Rated 1-4)
  • Impact Test (Rated “P”)

The new EN ISO test provides a more accurate specification regarding cut resistance during work. It includes differing impact-based hazards, meaning there are now 6 possible grades of cut resistance. This is to ensure that the degree of protection provided by the glove is as accurate as possible for the job.

Most of our gloves are made of Nitrile, PU, or Latex.

Common dip material Characteristics
Nitrile It is a synthetic version of latex that is 3 times more puncture resistant than rubber and stands up well to oil.
Additional foam coating acts like a sponge, it helps increase gripping power
Nitrile gloves can be used in most working conditions except in heat.
PU (Polyurethane) It grips well without being sticky and provides great breathability and dexterity.
PU resists fats, ozone, oils, and gasoline
Latex Latex has great tear resistance and elasticity.
It resists alcohol and can be worn in working conditions involving chemicals
Latex can cause allergic reactions
